Journey in the Jail
Bringing Light Behind Bars, and Hope Beyond Them.
At Journey Church, we believe no one is too far gone and everyone is worthy of a second chance. Journey in the Jail is our outreach ministry focused on bringing the love of Jesus to those currently incarcerated, and walking alongside them as they reenter society. Whether it’s through monthly Bible studies in various jails or support for families, we’re passionate about showing up with the message of grace, hope, and restoration.
Steps to Join the Team
Interested in being part of this life-changing ministry? Here's how to get involved:
1. Pray – Ask God if He’s calling you to this mission and prepare your heart to serve with compassion and courage.
2. Complete Next Steps – Take your first step in becoming a Dream Team member by completing our Next Steps class. https://www.journeyorl.com/nextsteps
3. Complete a Background Check– All volunteers must pass a screening process to ensure the safety and integrity of our ministry.
4. Fill Out State Application – We’ll help you submit the required application to serve in the jail system through our state’s volunteer program.
5. Get Fingerprinted – This is a standard part of the clearance process to gain access to correctional facilities.
6. Join a Small Group – Community is key—grow spiritually and stay encouraged by doing life with others.
7. Attend Freedom Conference – Experience personal breakthrough and healing so you can minister from a place of wholeness.
8. Start Serving – Whether inside the jail or supporting from the outside, there’s a place for you to make a difference!

No! All you need is a willing heart and a commitment to serve. We’ll train you.

We currently visit three different facilities in the Greater Orlando area, and each location has its own schedule and rotation. Some teams go in weekly, others bi-weekly or monthly, depending on the facility’s availability. There are also meaningful ways to serve that don’t require entering the jail.

Yes. We work in close partnership with local facilities and follow strict safety protocols.
